History of Springville

The history of Springville first began when the city was explored in 1776 by Father Escalante, a Jesuit Priest. Later in 1850 was when the firsts settlers arrived, a family of eight pioneers. In 1853 the city of Springville was incorporated as Hobble Creek. This was a name given by the early pioneer families because their horses often "hobbled (by loosely tying their front feet together) and were left along the stream to graze."1

As our town grew, the name changed to Springville because of the many fresh springs in the area. The name Hobble Creek is now exclusively for the canyon stream and golf courses.1

So what is Springville known for? Well, our community is famous for the Arts, and locals often call our town "Art City." There are many tributes to art, such as the Springville Museum of Art. This is a historic Spanish-style building with both national and local art displays from well-known artists.1

While the city of Springville is home to the arts, it is also a thriving community that continues to grow. In fact, it has grown drastically in the last ten years! According to the Utah Valley, the current population is 26,000, but it projects to more than double over the next sixteen years. Along with the dynamic expansion of it's commercial, office, retail and industrial sectors on the city's I-15 corridor.1
