FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

To help take the stress out of your moving experience, we answered some of the most common questions our team receives.

Are you planning to move houses and have a saltwater aquarium that needs to be relocated as well? Moving an aquarium is a delicate and challenging process, but with proper preparation and care, it can be done without harming the aquatic life or other creatures that live in it or damaging your tank. The first step is to plan ahead. Moving an aquarium requires much preparation, so it’s essential to start preparing at least a week before your move. Gather supplies like plastic bags, buckets, a siphon, packing tape, and a net.

If you have fish living in your aquarium, you will need to prepare them for transport. Feed them lightly and add some aquarium salt to the water to reduce stress. Use a siphon to remove water from the tank, leaving just enough to cover the substrate, and save the water in buckets for later use. For other types of pets, such as reptiles, terrestrial crustaceans, insects, or arachnids, this step will not be necessary, though other transport preparations will be needed. Remove decorations and plants from the tank and place them in labeled plastic bags. Use a net to catch the fish and place them in plastic bags with some of the saved water. Disassemble the tank, starting with the filter, heater, and other equipment. Drain and dry the hoses and pack them in a box. Wrap the tank in packing materials or blankets to protect it during transport.

Packing up an entire apartment in just one day may seem like a daunting task, but it is achievable with some proper planning and organization. Start by waking up early and having a quick breakfast, so you can get an early start on packing. Before you begin, create a list of all the items that need to be packed. You also must gather all the necessary packing supplies, such as boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, and markers. This will save time and prevent you from having to make trips to the store throughout the day.

When packing, start with the room you use the least and pack one room at a time. As you pack, quickly sort through your belongings and decide what to donate, keep, pack, or throw away. Make sure to pack efficiently by filling each box to its capacity without overpacking it. Label each box with its content and the room it belongs in to make it easier to properly place and unpack later. Don't hesitate to ask for help from friends or family to speed up the process. Take breaks throughout the day to prevent burnout, and remember to stretch, snack, and rest. With these tips, you can pack your apartment in one day without feeling overwhelmed. Stay organized, pack efficiently, and ask for help when needed. Happy packing!

If you are someone who suffers from allergies, you understand how allergy-proofing your home is a must. Regular cleaning is essential to remove allergens from your place of residence. Vacuum, dust, and mop your floors regularly, and use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter to trap allergens. High humidity can promote mold growth, which can trigger allergies as well. Use a dehumidifier in damp areas such as the basement, and keep the humidity level below 50%. Wash your bedding, including sheets, pillowcases, and blankets, in hot water at least once a week to remove dust mites and other allergens.

If you have pets, keep them out of the bedrooms and use a HEPA air purifier to remove pet dander from the air. During high pollen seasons, keep your windows closed to prevent pollen from entering your home, and use air conditioning instead to circulate and filter air. If possible, consider removing carpeting, which can trap allergens, or using low-pile or washable area rugs instead. Use allergy-friendly bedding, such as pillows, mattresses, and box springs, and all should have dust mite covers. Replace or clean air filters regularly in your HVAC system to remove allergens from the air. Lastly, use natural cleaning products, such as vinegar and baking soda, to clean your home, as harsh cleaning products can irritate allergies. By following these steps, you can significantly reduce allergens in your home and create a more comfortable environment for yourself if you have allergies.

Salt Lake City might not have its own language, but locals definitely toss around some terms you’ll want to know. First off, if someone invites you to go “up the canyon,” they’re talking about one of the many scenic drives into the Wasatch Mountains—not a specific canyon. You’ll also hear “the U” a lot, which refers to the University of Utah, not just any old college campus. And don’t be surprised if people talk about “Temple Square” like it’s a central landmark—because it absolutely is. Then there’s the matter of directions. Salt Lake’s street grid system is unique and takes a little getting used to. Instead of Main Street or Broadway, you’ll find addresses like “400 South 700 East.” It sounds confusing, but once you crack the code, it’s one of the easiest city layouts to navigate. Bonus tip: “the lake” always means the Great Salt Lake, not a random neighborhood pond.

Winter in Salt Lake City is no joke. The snow is beautiful, but the cold air can seep into your home faster than you expect. To keep things cozy, start with the basics: check your insulation and seal any drafty windows or doors. Even small cracks can let in big chills. A roll of weather stripping or a tube of caulk can go a long way. Another smart move is to invest in a programmable thermostat. Heating costs can spike in the winter, but setting your system to warm the house right before you wake up and lower it while you’re away saves both money and energy. And don’t underestimate the power of layered curtains—heavy drapes can help trap heat inside. At the end of the day, sometimes it’s the little upgrades that make the biggest difference when it comes to fighting off that mountain chill.

Joining a Salt Lake City HOA can be a bit like joining a club—it comes with perks, but also some rules you’ll need to play by. Here’s a quick breakdown: Pros: Community amenities like pools, clubhouses, or playgrounds are often maintained by the HOA. Property values tend to be more stable since HOAs enforce upkeep standards. You’ll often find neighborhood events and a greater sense of community connection. Cons: Monthly or yearly fees can add up, and they aren’t optional. You may run into strict guidelines on everything from paint colors to where you park your car. Decision-making is shared, which means you might not always agree with the board’s calls. For some homeowners, the balance tilts in favor of structure and shared upkeep. For others, the restrictions feel like a little too much oversight. The key is knowing yourself—and your tolerance for rules—before you buy into an HOA community in Salt Lake City.
