Comfort, Lydia McMillen, and their six children settled on a branch called Muddy creek, which was later changed to Maxwell Creek. Fast forward to 1888 when James Murphy, who donated land to the train depot, ended up having the city named after him! The city of Murphy, Texas was officially established on September 29, 1958.
The population began to increase, and families flocked to Murphy for their land lots. Businesses also began to return to our city, and the school districts began evolving.
