The History of Stapleton

Our town dates back to 1995 when the Denver International Airport opened and Stapleton International Airport closed. The city of Denver had the opportunity to transform 7.5 square miles of runways, concourses and terminals into a beautiful new community. This became one of the largest in-fill redevelopment projects ever.

Business leaders, civic officers and citizens came together collaboratively to build Stapleton. After countless hours and their own money, they created the Green Book, which became the guide for redeveloping Stapleton. In May 2001, the redevelopment of Stapleton commenced.

The vision was to take the best parts of Denver's classic neighborhoods such as parks, front porches, tree-lined streets and more and incorporate them into this redesign. They took the classic parts and added a new way of thinking with energy-efficient technology and water-wise landscaping for their standard homes and commercial spaces.
