Packing Tips For Moving

Hiring San Antonio movers to take your belongings from your old home to your new one can make the moving process infinitely less stressful. However, if you’ve decided to pack up your home on your own, just the thought of putting all of your belongings into boxes may make you feel exhausted. To make sure you’re prepared for the day the movers arrive on your doorstep and to make this process easier on yourself and your family, here are five guidelines to consider.

1. Don’t Wait

Nothing is worse than staying up all night with a big move ahead of you to try and get your entire home packed. If you can, try and avoid this at all costs. Start packing several weeks before the San Antonio movers are scheduled to arrive. If you find that you’re running short on time, have some of your friends or family members come over for a “packing party” on one of the days before you move. Play music and provide snacks to make the process less mundane.

2. Be Prepared

Nothing will compromise your packing productivity more than running out every few hours to get more boxes, packing peanuts, and tape. Before you start packing, make sure that you have plenty of boxes in several varying sizes.

3. Don’t Take Everything

Moving is the perfect opportunity to figure out which belongings in your home you don’t need any more. Don’t stress yourself out by convincing yourself that you need to pack everything in your home. While you still have plenty of time to spare, go through your storage area, bedrooms, closets, and any other place where unneeded belongings might be and take them to a donation center. Not only will this help you have less to pack, but it will also help you get a fresh start in your new home.

4. Start With Storage

Once you’re ready to start packing, it probably isn’t a good idea to pack up your closet or the toiletries in your bathroom first. Instead, you should consider packing up the items stored in your garage or storage area. This will ensure that you don’t accidentally pack something you need before the day of your move. If you haven’t already, doing this can also be a good way to know which items you want to get rid of.

5. Identify Which Items to Pack Last

When you start packing, go through each room and determine which items you should pack last. For example, if you use your coffee maker every morning, add this to your list of items that should be packed shortly before the move. If you’re worried that you’ll accidentally pack an item you need, place small stickers on items that you use on a regular basis. A day or two before moving day, pack an overnight bag with your toiletries, extra pair of clothes, and any other items you might need that you don’t want going in the back of the moving truck.

It’s no secret that moving can be a stressful and chaotic experience. However, by having a team of movers on your side the day of the move and following these guidelines, you may be surprised at how smoothly your upcoming move goes.
