According to a report by the Center for Housing Policy, young returning veterans have the highest unemployment rate and are having a hard time affording housing. Even with governmental training programs and assistance, returning veterans can't seem to find jobs that pay enough to cover to cost of buying an averaged priced home. In some places, not even renting a one-bedroom apartment. The report studied five occupations that returning veterans typically train for including carpenters, dental assistants, electricians, firefighters and truck drivers. Then, the gap between the wages and housing costs in over 200 metro areas were examined. The local Raleigh movers learned that even with the low home prices due to the housing market and low mortgages, only electricians could afford enough to own a home in the majority of the markets researched. What's more surprising is the wages that were taken into consideration for the study were wages meant for workers were experienced and had a few years in the field. For newcomers, the incomes were less than average. The local Raleigh movers found out that some veterans might also have trouble finding or keeping work because of medical disabilities or post-traumatic stress disorder. A lot of them also enlisted right out of high school so they don't even have experience looking for jobs. All of this resulted in a huge unemployment rate of 30% among 18-24 year-old veterans. The Raleigh movers learned that long-haul truckers earn between $31,000 to $47,000 according to the Center Housing Policy. With that type of salary, truckers can only buy a home in 38% of the 200 markets. Renting is still not a possibility for them in 12% of the markets. Dental assistants are making between $27,000 to $40,000 and can only buy a home in 22% of the markets. Electricians made between $40,000 to $60,000 and can rent in over 90% of the markets. The Raleigh moving specialists learned firefighters can buy in 51% of the markets. Of course this is not even considering the 20% down payment needed for some lenders. The report factored in a 10% down payment. Are you a veteran looking to move into a new home? If so, call the All My Sons of Raleigh for a professional move at an affordable price.
