Ways to Recycle Old Crayons Before Moving

Packing for a move is not always easy, especially when you must pack for your little ones as well. Getting kids to understand the processes of moving can sometimes be challenging, but it can also be fun! If you have younger kids, then chances are there is probably an art box or two with crayons in it or bits of broken crayons. Though they may seem useless, your kid's old crayons can be recycled and made new again! In a quick and easy process, you and your kids can turn old crayons into new crayons and other fun things. Recycled crayons can be used in several ways to create a series of different things, like art! Our Indianapolis movers have some ways of getting your kids to have fun with moving, with crayon recycling.

You will need these three supplies before beginning crayon recycling.

- old broken crayons

- a muffin tin

- a knife

If you do not want to buy a muffin tin just for the purposes of crayon recycling, you can always line the bottom of a muffin tin you have with foil cups, so that the crayons will not stick to it. To add some character to your crayon recycling, you can also use soap molds to give your new crayons a fun shape!

How to Recycle Crayons

1. Gather all broken crayons, remove them from their wrappers, and cut them into small pieces.

2. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. Fill either the foil or silicone cups in the muffin tin up with a layer of crayon bits until it's about an inch full. You can choose to make each cup a different color or mix all the colors in different cups to create cool new colors.

4. Bake the crayons in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until they are fully melted. Our residential Indianapolis movers also recommend not to leave the crayons in the oven unattended. If you see any signs of smoke in or out of the oven, remove the crayons at once.

5. Let the crayons cool off and harden before use. Once they are properly cooled, remove them from the tins and see what your cool new colors look like on paper!
