Time to Move the Rocking Chair

The professional packers at All My Sons Moving & Storage can help secure everything you own, including your beloved rocking chair, for your local or long-distance move. If you are packing the rocking chair yourself, follow these five easy steps to make sure the rocking chair reaches your destination in great condition.

Your rocking chair could be a treasured piece of your nursery or living room. Whether it’s an antique heirloom passed down from your grandparents or a modern purchase you made for your growing family, you want to be sure the rocking chair makes it to your new home ready to rock for years to come.

Let All My Sons help you figure out how to get the rocking chair into the moving truck in five easy steps.

Step 1: Remove Any Detachable Cushions or Parts

Inspect your rocking chair and determine if it has detachable parts like cushions, armrests, or its rocking feet. Pack any detachable cushions with the pillows or linens for the room. Easily detachable parts like armrests or feet should be removed and either packed into boxes or transported individually depending on their size.

Step 2: Disassemble the Chair If Possible

If any parts could safely detach, you will have already begun this step. Look around the body of your rocking chair for any other pieces that can safely come apart. Use the appropriate tools to undo screws or bolts and separate the chair down into its base component parts.

Step 3: Save Any Extra Hardware

Screws, bolts, and fasteners that held your rocking chair together should all be saved in a sealable plastic bag. You should label this bag with a black permanent marker and keep it either with other bags of furniture hardware or tape it to one of the larger pieces of the rocking chair.

Step 4: Wrap the Chair in Furniture Pads

It is possible your chair will not safely disassemble into its component parts. If this is the case, skip straight to wrapping your chair in furniture pads. Be careful of any part of the rocking chair body that might need extra protection like armrests, feet, and backs.

If you have been able to disassemble the chair, wrap individual pieces in furniture pads.

Step 5: Secure Furniture Pads with Tape

Once the chair or chair component parts have been securely wrapped with furniture pads, tape the pads into place. Be careful and do not tape your furniture pads to the rocking chair itself as removing the tape later might damage the wood finish of the rocking chair.

If the wrapped component parts of the rocking chair are small enough to fit into boxes, then be sure to label the boxes clearly.

Ready to Rock at the New Home

Pack your rocking chair onto the moving truck and breathe easy knowing your rocking chair can make the journey safely. When you reach your new home, you can delight in setting the rocking chair back up in the nursery or living room once the other essentials are unpacked.
